Every year as the weather gets colder, my mind tends to wander into the growing shadows. One thing that’s stuck out to me lately is the phrase, “life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.” If you didn’t know, this is a quote from The Princess Bride, a brilliant classic. As I’ve grown older, I’ve found impermanence to be the root of all good and evil. But the world is in motion and cannot be halted; as such, neither can the inevitable march of time. Life’s an adventure, a lonely and winding road, but one where the pain is hopefully worth the journey that accompanies it. There’s always the nagging wish that one could load up an earlier save so that the time you had could truly be appreciated, but right now that’s not an available option. Learn from your mistakes, boy. The present turns into the past in the blink of an eye and tomorrow you’ll find your yesterdays are missed as well.
